General Information

Mid-American Glass offers the following general information to guide you through your specific applications for Mid-Lite Insulating Glass.

Insulating Glass Unit Maximum Sizes

Mid-American Glass utilizes the following chart to determine the appropriate maximum allowable unit size given its glass thickness, air space, and/or aspect ratio. MAG may decline to manufacture units exceeding these maximum sizes due to the increased risk of unit failure, distortion, or unit breakage during transportation. Units exceeding these maximum allowable sizes agreed to be manufactured by MAG will not be covered by the Mid-Lite IG standard warranty.

Please note

  • Additional charges may apply to units exceeding the above standards.
  • If the horizontal glass dimension for tempered glass exceeds 84”, the glass will have distortion running vertically to the ground. This condition is aesthetically unappealing and gives the appearance of greater distortion.

Non-Rectangular Shapes (Patterns)

Mid-American Glass capabilities for Mid-Lite IGU include the fabrication of virtually any shape required for your project. Given our computerized glass cutting system, we are able to improve accuracy and produce more cost efficiently when measurements are provided to us in accordance with one of our standardized patterns. Visit our patterns page to access our guide and order/quotation form.

If one of these pattern templates does not apply, Mid-American Glass will accept physical patterns from our Mid-Lite customers under the following conditions:

  • Patterns must be cut to exact size on heavy, non-stretch, stock
  • Mark patterns with company name, P.O., and product description
  • Marked side will be as viewed as from exterior of building
  • Patterns will not be returned
  • Please call ahead to MAG for pattern pick-up
  • Improperly submitted patterns may result in delays

To assist you in ordering via a physical pattern, we ask that you include our Pattern Submission Form with your pattern. This form may also be used when requesting a quotation from MAG for a custom shape IG.

Delivery Considerations

The Mid-American Glass fleet of specialized glass carriers makes regular delivery runs into areas within a 250 mile radius of our Davenport, Iowa location to pre-approved customer locations. Jobsite deliveries while welcome are available only with prior approval and may require additional delivery charges. Complete and return this Jobsite Request Form to Mid-American Glass to expedite review and approval of your jobsite location delivery.

Most Mid-Lite Insulating Glass units are delivered loose on our specialized glass transport carriers. Under some circumstances, the size or quantity of your Mid-Lite order may require special racking or crating of the units. You will be notified prior to delivery should such circumstances become necessary. Our fleet of carriers includes both crane trucks, with the capability to offload wooden crates and steel racks, and box trailers. Special crating or racking assignments of insulating glass units may be possible upon request.

MAG policy when unloading full cases of glass is to boom the case or rack from our truck to a position designated by our customer and deemed safe by our driver. If the case or rack is then to be moved from that position, we offer our driver’s assistance to the customer, when requested, in moving the product to a more secure or permanent location in their warehouse or at the jobsite. In certain circumstances, when our customer does not have the proper apparatus for safely moving cases into their warehouse, a "crab" cart and "johnson bar" may be available for our customer's use at their request prior to delivery. Under no circumstances is MAG responsible for the disposition of the product once it is safely removed from our vehicle.
